“How to Get the Most Out of Psychotherapy”

Tuesday, December 1, 2015, 12:30- 1:30 p.m.Therapist in Globe Image

“The therapist is no longer the agent of treatment, but a fellow participant in a process of individual development.” Carl Jung

Psychotherapy promotes healing and fosters individuation–the work of becoming whole. But how are we to best use this process? What does it mean to “work on it in therapy”? While we know that client participation largely determines progress in psychotherapy, just exactly what that entails is often misunderstood and seldom explained. In this talk, Dr. Trosclair describes ten tools that clients can use to make their work in therapy effective and in doing so enhance their individuation process. The presentation will include Jung’s thoughts on the client ‘s role, along with those of other depth psychologists.

Dr. Trosclair will be available to sign copies of this book, which is available in the C.G Jung Book Service.

Jungian analyst Deborah Bazes, in her Quadrant review, writes: “Jung writes in ‘The Aims of Psychotherapy,’ What the doctor … does is less a question of treatment than of developing the creative possibilities latent in the patient himself.’ What it means for a patient to be deeply involved in the task of developing those possibilities-in the consulting room, with his/her therapist and beyond-   is both the subject and the goal of Gary Trosclair’s unusual and useful work.”

Gary Trosclair, DMA, LCSW, is a Jungian analyst in private practice in New York City and Westchester County. He draws on a wide range of models to develop a comprehensive and flexible approach to human growth and healing. He has served as Director of Training at the Jung Institute of New York, where he continues to teach clinical courses. Through his blogging for Huffington Post and public speaking, he bridges the gap between psychological theory and those who seek to use it to achieve change in their lives.
